In support of our client, an industrial fabricator and installer, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join their team in Wilson, NC. This is a contract to hire or direct hire opportunity with our client.
This role requires hands-on experience operating a variety of manual machining equipment to produce and repair components to exact specifications. The ideal candidate has strong blueprint reading skills, solid knowledge of machining practices, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, knee mills, surface grinders, drill presses, pedestal grinders, vertical and horizontal saws, and pipe threaders
- Select proper tooling, feeds, and speeds based on material type and machining requirements
- Interpret blueprints, AutoCAD drawings, sketches, and job instructions to produce precision parts within required tolerances
- Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure quality standards are met
- Assemble machined components as required
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and monitor machines for mechanical or maintenance issues
- Follow all safety procedures and ensure setups meet required safety standards
- Support urgent repair work and accommodate rush jobs or equipment breakdown situations when needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICTIONS
- Minimum of 3 years of manual machining experience in a production or job shop environment
- Proficiency operating manual shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and saws
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and machining instructions
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling selection, and material properties
- Excellent math skills, including the ability to convert metric and standard measurements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Must supply and be proficient with personal machinist measuring and setup tools
- Must own or have access to a machinist handbook
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CNC machining experience is a plus
- Welding experience is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS
- Hot manufacturing environment
- Required PPE includes safety shoes and safety glasses
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, to support production needs
MINIMUM TOOL REQUIREMENTS
- Micrometers (0–6” outside)
- Calipers (6” and 12”)
- Scales (6” and 12”)
- Telescoping gauges
- Thread pitch gauges (SAE and Metric)
- Indicators and edge finder set
- Parallel set and tool holders
- Basic machinist hand tools (wrenches, deburring tools, hammers, etc.)
- Machinist handbook
