Aviation Planning Manager

On behalf of our client (Georgia Department of Transportation), applications are being sought for the position of Aviation Planning Manager. Under minimum supervision, our client is seeking a self-starting experienced aviation planning manager who can complete planning assignments associated with Airport Layout Plans and Airport Master Plans, conduct a wide range of aviation planning studies, and manage planning projects through the supervision of consultant and planning staff. The manager is responsible for the direction, coordination, and management of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and State aviation planning efforts associated with the federal Block Grant Program. The manager assists with overall program management functions to execute a state aviation program in Georgia. The position is instrumental in helping to maintain and advance a state airport system. The manager helps plan a wide range of capital improvements to assist local communities be successful in developing their airports. The position supervises key functions of the aviation program to include airport safety inspections, environmental documentation, project plans, capital improvement projects, studies and federal/state aviation responsibilities related to laws, guidelines, and requirements. A strong knowledge base of airspace matters, airport design standards, and compliance is essential for success in this position. Typical duties are the review of planning documents, conducting meetings, attend conferences, developing and making presentations, project execution, correspondence, contracts review and development, and reports and procedure writing assignments. The manager develops relationships with airport sponsors, consultants, state, and federal agencies.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, aviation or airport management or a related field. Five (5) years of experience in aviation planning/project management or as a consultant for aviation development.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, aviation or airport management, or related field. Eight (8) or more years of experience in airport planning/project management to include understanding of environmental processes, land acquisition, and compliance issues.

Position Requirements: Full-time position with an office in Atlanta. The position further requires approximately 20% travel with some overnight stays. Successful candidates will be required to submit to and pass a drug test and criminal background check.
