3D Scanning Technician

Our client, a global automotive supplier, is looking for a 3D Scanning Technician to add to their team on for a long-term contract assignment. This position will consist of reality capturing existing manufacturing plants executing high resolution 3D scans of complex facilities. Then processing the data once back at the office. These scans and surveys will be used for Digital Twin and internal project support.

This position will involve 50% to 75% travel. The ability and willingness to travel to US facilities in multiple states and internationally is a requirement of this position. Your typical week will include the following:

  • Travel to job sites, both in the US and internationally.
  • Interact with clients and site contacts, providing excellent customer service. Timely communication with team members is critical in delivering complete and accurate survey documents within the scheduled deadline.
  • Utilize specialized equipment and software to scan, measure, and document As-Built conditions for manufacturing plants.
  • Operate and maintain 3D laser scanning technology, equipment including laptop, digital camera and measuring tools.
  • Post Processing (Registration) of acquired 3D scan data
  • Perform independent building surveys, including the assessment of existing conditions and have the ability to climb on rooftops
  • Participate in coordination meetings with BIM Manager and provide 3D laser scanning data and technical expertise to project design team members.
  • Perform field surveying activities in accordance with standards set by the team.
  • Adhere to established company policies, follow all surveying and scanning service line procedures and participate in survey department and field crew training.
  • Plan daily activities to support multiple projects and meet productivity goals set by Project Managers.


  • 3+ years of experience in a field 3D scanning role, 3D digital modeling, and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Experience with Faro equipment is preferred, Faro Scene software experience would give candidates an advantage.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Revit is desired.
  • Ability to work without direct day-to-day supervision and make technical decisions for projects assigned within specified limits of authority.
  • Must possess strong verbal/written communication skills, the ability to produce work independently, and effectively coordinate with team members
  • Proactive and organized, the candidate effectively manages multiple concurrent projects while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and meeting deadlines (including taking advantage of overtime opportunities)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a valid passport
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
