Technical Order Management Engineer

In partnership with our client, a global leader in metals manufacturing, we are seeking an experienced Technical Order Management Engineer to support our client’s Mobile, AL advanced steel finishing facility. This is a direct hire opportunity.



The ideal candidate will act as a technical liaison between the customer, sales, technical services, the mill quality, and mill operations teams to support new business opportunities as well as existing business and production orders regarding product quality aspects to meet the business goals.



  • Lead product development of AHSS and pipe & tube steel grades
  • Lead product and process optimization and continuous improvement of steel grades
  • Guide customer qualifications, product approvals and product capability trials
  • Perform mechanical property failure investigation and root cause analysis
  • Analyze customer and industry material specifications for mill capability to meet dimensional, chemical, mechanical, and other characteristics
  • Act as a technical liaison between the customer, sales, technical services, and the mill quality & mill operations for new business opportunities, existing business & production orders regarding product quality aspects
  • Responsible for reviewing hot rolled business orders, building the fully configured materials/parts in SAP
  • Develop, maintain, track performance of quality business management systems for compliance, and conduct periodic internal audits of quality systems



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Materials or Metallurgical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in research, operations, quality assurance, product development and /or manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience in application of Lean Six Sigma to improve product performance and reliability through process redesign
  • Experience in Failure investigation and Root Cause Analysis in metallurgy or steel manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of flat-rolled steel products
  • Knowledge of quality systems and processes
  • Proficiency in Statistic Analysis
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using SAP and MES preferred
  • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders, work in small and large teams
  • Willingness to work directly with Hourly Technicians and Contractors closely to affect proper work practices and successful work execution
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
