In support of our client, a professional engineering services company, we are searching for a Structural Design Engineer to join their team located in Tullahoma, TN. This is a contract to hire opportunity.

We are seeking a Structural Design Engineer with 10 to 20 years of experience in the designs of complex structures. The successful candidate will work in a project team environment to develop custom designs to satisfy client requirements. This role will work on high level engineering projects for various industries and governments.

Typical projects include the structural design of wind tunnels, rocket and jet engine test stands, launch facilities, automotive and aerospace test facilities, and other unique structural systems associated with research and development and other advanced test facilities. In this role, you will to join a known leader in the industry and work on high level engineering projects for various industries and governments.

Structural Design Engineer Skills / Requirements:

  • 10 to 20 years of experience in the design and analysis of special structures
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering field
  • Able to lead a small team of structural engineers and drafters on the structural design of small and large projects
  • Proficient in the structural design in one or more of the following areas:
    • Linear and non-linear finite element analysis (including STAAD, ANSYS, and Advanced Steel)
    • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 & 2
    • Dynamic and impact loading including non-linear behavior
    • Blast loading (UFC 3-340-02) structures to resist the effects of accidental explosions
    • Vibration Structural Response Analysis, including fatigue analysis
  • Proficient in the use of structural design codes; including the IBC Code, AISC Steel Code, ACI Code, and ASCE Minimum Design Loads
  • Strong time management skills

Structural Design Engineer Preferred Requirements:

  • PE License
  • SE License
  • MS degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering field
  • Ability to do Project Management or Marketing on small projects
  • Spent Nuclear Fuel Design Experience

Structural Design Engineer Typical Duties:

  • Provide a complete design solution from concept to final design and construction
  • Apply design loading to structures utilizing applicable building codes and design codes
  • Design and analyze structures to meet project specific and code requirements utilizing both hand and finite element analysis
  • Develop engineering design calculation packages, which may include static, dynamic, blast, vibration, and thermal stresses, utilizing both hand and finite element analysis
  • Evaluate life of structural components for low and high cycle fatigue
  • Oversee detailed design and development of 3D models and 2D drawings (completed by drafters)
  • Develop construction bid packages which typically include calculations, specifications, and drawings
  • Perform post design activities which may include review of subcontractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
  • Perform site inspections at construction sites to ensure facility is construction to contract documents
  • Provide leadership for junior engineers and drafter/designers
  • Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines – including presentations, design review meetings, and training
  • Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, project management, and marketing
  • Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team to meet project budgets and schedules
