Night Shift Superintendent

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Night Shift Superintendent is responsible for the direct management of all the production lines during the complete tire manufacturing processes.  Responsibilities include the hands-on management of all night shift production supervisors of major work areas of the tire building process including - mixing, assembly, molding, curing and finished product.  The plant is a higly automated manufacturing facility in which the Night Shift Superintendent may be directly supervising very few production personnel.  This is a direct hire opportunity that is based in the heart of the Southeastern United States.


  • Responsible for meeting shift production metrics while maintaining quality and delivery objectives

  • Schedule and organize the work flow of production personnel

  • Monitor product quality and process productivity, implementing methods of continuous improvement to reach established goals

  • Provide general guidance and assist with problem solving in production areas

  • Handle all superintendent level responsibilities including performance reviews, team development and coaching for all night shift production supervisors

  • Lead manufacturing team to achieve established targets for night shift cycle time and on-time delivery

  • Maintain high product quality and manufacturing yield while ensuring optimal use of resources and adherences to best safety practices

  • Hire, coach, lead and develop production supervisors

  • Monitor metrics and Key Performance Indicator's (KPI's) to assess productivity and cost management

  • Assist with implementation of and continued adherence to Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives

  • Analyze current practices to drive improvements

  • Lead by example with team focused positive reinforcement

  • Complete employee performance reviews on time and provide proper guidance to all production team members according to the employee handbook and approved procedures

  • Communicate with fellow Plant Manager to ensure required production coordination

  • Coordinate with Planning Department on capacity and material constraints

  • Coordinate with Maintenance Department on equipment availability

  • Partner and coordinate with cross functional departments to resolve issues and concerns

  • All other duties as assigned



  • Must have experience as a night shift supervisor
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at various levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate the ability to work on complex issues and be adapable to resolutions via in-depth analytics and evaluation of factors and/or frequent use of creativity
  • Proven ability to set and communicate challenging team goals and to achieve them through collaborative team leadership


  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited institute of higher learning preferred
  • 5 years night shift manufacturing experience with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles; lean certification a plus - Six Sigma and/or 5S
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be available to work over-time and weekends when needed
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.


Physical Requirements and Demands

  • Frequent walking, reaching, grasping, bending, and stooping

  • Must be able to tolerate odor from raw materials, freshly cured tires and hot materials

  • Frequent pulling and/or pushing up to 20 lbs independently, and occasional pushing and/or pulling up to 35 lb independently, and greater weights with mechanical automation assistance

  • May be required to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs independently, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs independently, and greater weights with mechanical automation assistance

  • May be required to engage in repetitive motions requiring substantial movement of the wrist, hands and/or fingers

  • Adequate vision to read work instructions, job aids and guides, and detect imperfections in raw materials, tooling and finished product

  • Ability to work in environment with limited climate control and varied temperature levels

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in an environment with continual noise, requiring the ability to hear, understand and communicate work instructions and directions while wearing company provided hearing protection

  • Must be able to be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment mechanical equipment and vibration
