Quality and Tire Technology Manager

Reporting both to the Plant Manager/Operations Director for the Tennessee plant directly and the VP Global Quality & Technology indirectly, the Quality Manager ensures that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented, maintained and meeting applicable standards. This position also includes promoting quality performance and improvement across production and all supporting functions within their operations.


  • Develop and drive continuous improvement through a strategic quality roadmap, identifying a quality vision and related strategies to achieve desired results.

  • Ensure manufacturing quality support and guidance, including incoming inspection, training on quality methodologies, control of nonconforming materials or processes and reporting on system performance

  • Ensure a robust Quality Management System (QMS), including documentation, for conformance to internal requirements and external standards.

  • Manage applicable audit processes related to the QMS. This includes external audits, such as ISO9001:2015, IATF16949:2016 , ISO14001:2015 , as well as an internal audit program to verify processes adhere to the established system and are effective.

  • Ensures finished products are within regulatory compliance.

  • Manage a team of quality personnel, providing support and guidance for their relevant functions and activities. Establish developmental goals and succession planning for personnel and prepare and administer an annual budget for the department.

  • Implement Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to Quality, ensuring the information is adequately communicated and stimulates action.

  • Promote a Quality culture, providing a Quality perspective for decision-making and be an ambassador of Quality for the entire manufacturing organization.

  • Oversees and directs all plant Quality activities and laboratory testing functions.

  • Supports advanced quality plans to ensure effective product launches.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Secondary Functions:

  • Manage a risk management system to identify potential problems and drive for process confidence through Statistical Process Control (SPC) applications within production operations.

  • Manage and direct the Corrective Action process to drive root cause analysis and resolution of issues.

  • Collaborate in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO), driving product qualifications, including First Article Inspections (FAI), to ensure successful results of change management.

  • Partner with Supply Chain for supplier quality management, including approval processes and ongoing performance evaluations.

  • Responsible technical customer service related to customer quality concerns, including investigating and resolving issues, warranties and monitoring of customer satisfaction.

  • Partner with the Technical group to ensure all equipment, machineries and critical part inventories are maintained according to plan.

  • Manage a documentation system to ensure adequate control and availability of relevant documented information, communication and maintenance of records.

  • Represents the “voice of the customer” in product quality and quality system matters with customers and suppliers.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, and 7+ years’ experience in manufacturing Quality Management and/or Engineering.
  • 5 years’ experience leading and managing a team.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of IATF16949:2016 Quality Management Systems with experience obtaining and maintaining certification.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with proven ability to apply tools such as statistical process control (SPC and Pareto analysis), risk management (FMEA/ Control Plan), design of experiments (DOE) and various quality system methodologies (IATF16949:2016, first article inspections, R&R studies, lean, root cause analysis, corrective actions, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work with, and bring together, cross-functional personnel to solve quality issues and develop comprehensive quality procedures.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff to maintain process improvement and exacting standards.
  • Organized and analytical thinker with advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and presentations and handle multiple assignments. Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization with the ability to teach quality improvement methods. Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven ability to manage, teach, and direct teams in a manufacturing environment. Practical knowledge and demonstrated experience with training methods and techniques preferred.
  • Ability to translate highly technical information for understanding by all audiences.

  • Strong computer skills including basic knowledge of computer-based manufacturing applications. Proficient with MS-Office application suite.
  • Experience with Oracle preferred.

  • Must be willing to travel about 15%.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Client will not provide visa sponsorship.

  • Operates in both an office environment and manufacturing environment including indoor environmental conditions and noise.

  • Must be able to continuously stand, hear, listen, talk, walk, bend, stoop, kneel or squat.

  • Occasionally required to sit, use repetitive hand motion, pull, push and lift up to 20 pounds.
